A new chapter

It has been some time since I posted. There have been a lot of changes in my life lately.

The biggest of which is that Truman joined us on August 17. He was 7 lbs and 15 oz. He is now almost 9 lbs and is big and happy.

Carmen loves our new little buddy and calls him Tru-ie because she can't quite master his name. She absolutely adores him and kisses him constantly. She always wants to know where he is.

We have moved in with Sandi and Scott and Carmen just loves being around her cousins all the time.

Carmen is getting so big. She will be 2 in just a couple of months. She is talking up a storm and decided on Wednesday that she would call me Mommy instead on Mom.

A bad infection in my c-section site resulted in a trip to the ER and 4 days in the hospital last week. Heavy antibiotics and intense wound care are still on going. I have a wound vac which has helped it heal faster and hopefully we will be done in a couple of weeks. The funny thing is that the wound vac makes this gurgling sound every once in a while and it makes me laugh. So, when you're around me and you hear it... you can laugh too. If you want to.

It's a pretty crazy time in our lives, but we are making it through and know that Heavenly Father is blessing us in ways we can't imagine or see right now.

Carmen... the eating machine!

I've been thinking lately about what Carmen eats. I try really hard to keep her diet balanced (even though I don't do that for my own diet). I was looking through recent pictures and found some funny shots of her and food!

She loves to drink the juice (what's left after I pour it out) from her fruit cups. She also enjoys drinking the milk out of her cereal bowl.

Sharing pan dulce with Daddy. One of his favorite treats.

She eats a bagel with passion! Bite it!!!

One of her favorite meals is "Cabinet Soup". That's when you take whatever's in the cabinet and throw it in a pot. It usually involves canned tomatoes at our house and she loves to get it everywhere!

What a nut!

The verdict is in...

... IT'S A BOY!!!!!!!! We are just so excited (and a little scared). I'm sure I'll get all kinds of advice on how to take care of a boy and I intend to ask people, so those with boys... be prepared. We haven't decided on a name and probably will keep our options open until the end!

We'll keep you posted!

Just one week away...

Next Thursday is our next doctor's appointment and ultrasound! I'm so excited!!! I'm hoping Baby B will be kind and let us find out if we have another little girl on the way or a bouncing baby boy. I think I'd go crazy if I couldn't find out.

I'm glad to be in my second trimester and moving away from all day sickness. I've been having some pain in my right hip, but a physical therapist friend gave me a couple suggestions on how to reduce the discomfort... heat and stretching. I'm definitely starting to feel pregnant. I've been feeling a few bumps and flutters over the last couple of weeks and that is always exciting!!!

I'll keep everyone updated with any news as it comes!!!

A new look!

I'm so excited! I finally took the time to check out how to customize my blog with the cute backgrounds that lots of my friends have on their blogs! I like it... how about you?

Exhausted

It's been a few weeks and I kept meaning to check in and post, but just haven't had the energy. I've been busy with work and all that crazy stuff. I've been working 9+ hours a day and cooking meals for my boss. It's exhausting. The shopping, preparing, serving, cleaning up and so on. One thing is coming out of this temporary role as chef, I'm looking to cook all kinds of things I've never made before. Corned beef for St. Patrick's Day, baked oysters, manicotti... the list goes on and on. I've also been able to share a couple of personal recipes with them and they have enjoyed them! The picture above is a meal I made for them just a couple of days ago. I thought it was so pretty, I took its picture! It's Rosemary and Mustard Pork Tenderloin (my recipe) with Roasted Garlic Couscous and Lima Beans, yum!!

But anyway! I had a doctor's appointment a couple of weeks ago and my doctor was able to find the heartbeat for more than half a second. It was wonderful to hear that strong heart! It made my eyes tear up. What a miracle pregnancy is. My next appointment and ultrasound is in the middle of April, so hopefully we'll have some excited news to post!

Talk to you soon!

Wednesday

On Wednesday, my sister Sandi asked me to help her with a church activity for the youth group. They were having an etiquette dinner and wanted me to show the kids how to tackle (eat) unusual foods. It was a lot of fun!

We talked about Kumquats, yes you eat the whole thing, and how to take apart a lobster, which provided a couple good laughs, especially when it sprayed water on me as I tried to take the tail meat out. We covered what foods are ok to pick up with your fingers and how to eat a crawfish.

If all else fails... follow your host!

I think the kids were really into it and I had a couple volunteers to help with the demos. What a fun time!

Tuesday

On Tuesday this week (which was also my sister's birthday), a bunch of us went to see Hairspray. Oh my it was fun! It was so funny and happy. We had a blast. I danced and couldn't get the music out of my head all day the next day!

We should have outings more often like that one. It was nice to go out with the girls and just have fun.

A little surprise...

So we've been really slammed lately. My mom, who is now doing well, had to go back into the hospital on New Year's Day. We were in the ER until 2am. I don't like to stay up that late. It makes me tired. She stayed in the hospital for a week and then was able to come home to recover.

I've also been crazy busy with work and all that jazz. I've been exhausted and falling asleep practically as soon as Carmen goes down for the night (7:30). I'm constantly starving and trying not to get "sick" at the same time. And I have a wonderful reason for feeling this way... Our little surprise!

Yes, we're expecting another baby! I'm due August 22. I can't belive it. Juan and I weren't sure we'd ever be able to have children, but Heavenly Father has blessed us with not only one miracle, but two.

We'll keep you all updated and let you know as things progress!
